Course Introduction
The Underwater Welding & Metal Cutting training course aims to equip trainees with specialized knowledge, practical skills, and professional certification in the field of underwater welding and cutting, specifically serving the oil & gas industry, shipbuilding, and marine construction.
Target Audience
- Commercial divers who have completed basic training.
- Laborers with experience operating mechanical equipment and basic welding knowledge.
- Technicians wishing to advance their underwater construction skills.
Training Objectives
Knowledge
- Understand the principles of arc welding and cutting in both underwater and onshore environments.
- Master the structure of welding equipment, multi-position welding techniques, and weld quality inspection.
- Know how to prevent accidents and ensure labor safety underwater.
Skills
- Operate and maintain welding and cutting equipment correctly.
- Practice welding in various positions (1F – 4F, 1G – 3G).
- Perform underwater steel cutting using electric arc and oxy-arc methods.
Professional Attitude
- Cultivate a high sense of responsibility, caution, and discipline when working underwater.
Training Curriculum Content
Part 1: Basic Onshore Welding & Cutting
Duration: 80 hours
- Basic theory of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
- Classification of welds, base metals, and electrodes.
- Grinding techniques and safe use of welding/cutting equipment.
- Practical welding: 1F, 2F, 3F, 1G, 2G, 3G positions.
- Onshore metal cutting using arc cutting machines and grinders.
Part 2: Underwater Welding & Cutting (Wet Welding)
Duration: 100 hours
- Overview of underwater wet and dry welding technologies.
- Techniques for selecting and using specialized welding rods.
- Setting up safe electrical currents for underwater work.
- Practical welding: 1F, 2F, 3F, 1G, 2G, 3G positions.
- Risk assessment, prevention of electrical shock, oxygen deficiency, and explosion incidents.
- Underwater welding practice with positions: 3G, T-joint, Fillet weld.
- Practice underwater steel cutting using electric arc and oxy-arc methods.
Part 3: Testing and Evaluation
- Review of theoretical knowledge and practice.
- Practical skills assessment exam for welding and cutting.
- Feedback, skill improvement, and issuance of course completion certificates.
Duration and Format
- Total duration: 200 hours (~25 days).
- Format: Combination of theory and practice at the center and in actual water environments.
- Language: Vietnamese (interpretation support available if needed).
- Class opening condition: Minimum of 08 trainees per class.
Certification and Validity
Trainees who complete the course will be awarded a Certificate of Training in Underwater Welding & Metal Cutting. The certificate is valid nationwide, has no expiration date, and is recognized by major construction projects and contractors.
